The main steps for galvanizing screws are as follows:

Cleaning the surface of the screw

Before galvanizing, it is necessary to ensure that the surface of the screw is clean and free of oil, rust or other impurities. This is because any contaminants may affect the bonding of the zinc layer with the screw substrate and reduce the protective effect. Usually, solvents, cleaning agents or pickling methods are used to clean the screws.

Galvanizing treatment

There are two main methods for galvanizing screws: hot-dip galvanizing and electrogalvanizing.

Hot-dip galvanizing: This is a method of immersing a screw in molten zinc to attach a layer of zinc to its surface. The hot-dip galvanizing process provides a thicker layer of zinc with excellent corrosion resistance. This method is mostly used for outdoor use or in harsh environments.

Electrogalvanizing: Electrogalvanizing is the process of forming a zinc layer on the surface of a screw by electrolysis. This method is more environmentally friendly than hot-dip galvanizing because it does not require the use of toxic solvents. The zinc layer of electrogalvanizing is relatively thin, but it is enough to provide protection for fine parts such as internal threads. It is mostly used indoors or in milder environments.
